A Burien Home Reimagined for Hosting and Connection
Designed by UMA Design Studio and built by Better Builders, this first-floor remodel transformed a compartmentalized floor plan into an open, welcoming space built for connection.
Entertaining is central to how this homeowner lives, from football Sundays to casual game nights, with dogs underfoot and friends filling the space. But the existing layout made that difficult. Rooms felt compartmentalized, flow was limited, and connections to outdoor living spaces were underused.
The primary goal was to improve the flow between rooms while strengthening connections to outdoor living areas. By opening up the living room, kitchen, family room, and dining room, the remodel created a cohesive floor plan that supports larger gatherings without sacrificing comfort or function. Exterior improvements further reinforced this flow, allowing entertaining to extend naturally beyond the interior walls.
A custom wet bar and entertainment area anchors the space, including a dedicated coffee station designed around the homeowner’s espresso machine. The result is a home that feels open, social, and personal, designed around how the homeowner actually lives and hosts.
